Thompson is disappearing!!!!

We have done the weigh-in for February.....

Me - weigh 96.8 kgs  (lost 1.7 kgs)

Thomspon           Chest - 44 ins

                         Waist - 41.5 ins  (lost 3.5 inches!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

                         Thigh - 26.5 ins

                         Weigh - 98.8 kgs (a kilo lost!!)

He has been so good.  He has decided that being basically vegetarian would be of assistance......at the very least it will make him healthier....veggies and fruits have to be an improvement.  He has been very good and diligent....and is thinking about what he is eating and is doing his own cooking.  We have had a number of veggie meals since he has started and everyone else will benefit from this.  Even Partick Thistle says that he enjoyed the pasta with pesto and parmasan.....and he has tried all the veggie things I have cooked.

What I like most about this is that Thompson has lost weight without feeling hungry and being miserable.....because that sort of weight loss will not last and will not carry over into the rest of his life.  To be realistic the hot weather may have helped a little....there were days when none of us really felt like eating.....but not that many days.  Gentle gradual weight loss is what we are after.  Rapid weight loss is bad for you because the skin needs to gradually return to its original shape and not go into great swathes of loose skin.  I have a feeling that my older skin will not do that.  I have a bit of an indication of that on my under arms.....but that was going to happen anyway....at my advanced age.  But Thompson's skin is so much younger and will bounce back.

I love you Thompson

My lovely boy was very sad - he worked out his BMI and it said he was obsese and needed to lose 20 kgs......which is of course true..........but seeing it in print on your computer screen is a bit confronting.  He looked very depressed and demoralised....but to his great credit he went outside and swam and walked and swam again.  We both need to lose 20 kgs and we will do it together....but we will aim for 11 kgs this year and if we lose more good.....but if we stay on the changed life style for a year it will surely have become part of our lives and we can continue for the rest of our lives.   And it is something that will become easier because the more weight he loses the better he will feel and the more exercise he will want and be able to do.

We are also trying Acai berries....even if it only has the placebo effect....it may actually improve our metabolism and energy....you never know.

Oh Thompson you make me Proud!!!

This will be Thompson - jeans that fit
My son Thompson (not his real name - this is a name given him by his sister in a moment of love/hate) is only 13 (and a half) and he makes me so proud.  He has a weight issue, we cannot get by that (we both do), but he is now trying really hard to do something about it.  He is thinking about what he is eating - and eating less - and becoming more and more aware of what is going in his mouth.  He is also thinking about exercise and doing it - they all went to Jamberoo yesterday and swam and played and did not stop moving all day apparently.  That is what he needs.....when they sit all day in class and do very little else.  I know that weight loss is 70% what you eat and 30% the exercise you do but any change is good.....as long as it becomes a change of attitude and habit for life.  GO THOMPSON!!!

Geoff Huegill we Love You!!

I have found one person really inspiring generally - but particularly - on the weight loss front and that is Geoff Heugill.  He is a famous Australian swimmer who once he retired from international swimming put on a LOT of weight.  The he lost 50 kgs and got back into competitive swimming and we are going to put his picture on our fridge to keep us focused...until we can put our before and after pictures there.

New Year and New Start !!!!

Thompson and I are going to do it.  We are going to lose 11kgs each to celebrate the new decade in 2011.  This blog will follow our progress - we will see what works and what doesn't.  We will cheer each other up and we will record our loses and our non-loses.....but we are doing this out here in cyberspace so there is a record we can both look at and, hopefully, be further inspired by.  We will research various weight loss strategies and possibly products (after a LOT of research) that may help.  I think everyone loses weight differently.  I know Thompson has a sugar addiction and he has to deal with that.....and my problem is that I eat TOO MUCH.  Most of what I eat is good and healthy but I eat too much of it....and have to fix that....and change the habits of a life time.  I have lost weight before - I lost 10kgs last year....and certainly my eating habits have changed....but still need to lose more.....and Thompson is 13 and needs to make himself look like the gorgeous HOT man I know he can be!!!!  NO MAN BOOBS and tight jeans....so HERE WE GO.

Mrs Dibble

 I weigh 98.5 kgs

Thompson wants to record measurements rather than weight as he is growing and gaining muscle mass - so weight is not such a fair measurement.
